Proven reliability: Home Master filters generally have better build quality than other brands. A good example is their modular RO filters that last longer and require less maintenance than other RO systems.

High-filtration performance: Home Master filters use high-quality parts such as catalytic carbon filters and NSF-certified components to achieve higher filtration performance.

Fast flow: Home Master RO filters are equipped with a fast flow kit that increases the water flow rate out of the faucet.

Long warranty: Home Master RO filters are covered by a 5-year warranty, the longest we’ve seen in any home under-sink RO system. Most other brands offer a one-year warranty.

Excellent customer service: If you have a problem during installation or when using a Home Master filter, their customer service is easily reachable and very helpful.

Home Master TMAFC Artesian RO System

BEST FOR MOST HOMES

Home Master TMAFC-ERP Artesian RO System

Summary

With an almost perfect 5-star rating from over five hundred reviews, the Home Master TMAFC is one of the best reverse osmosis water filters.

It features multiple filtration stages that remove sediments, chlorine, chloramines, organic chemicals, and any odors and tastes in the water.

A high-rejection semi-permeable membrane removes heavy metals, TDS, microbes, and other hard-to-remove contaminants.

To ensure the purified water doesn’t have the slightly acidic taste common in RO water, the Home Master TMAFC has a full-contact remineralization system that adds healthy minerals back into the water.

The water passes through the mineral filter at two points for more effective remineralization. What you get from the faucet is great tasting water that’s as good as bottled water.

The water flows out faster than in most other RO systems even though this particular model has no booster pump.

What it has is a Fast Flow RO Kit that increases the flow rate out of the faucet, so you don’t have to stand there forever to fill a glass of water.

Another area where the Home Master TMAFC stands out from other RO filters is the modular filter design.

The filter cartridge and housing are one unit. When replacing the filters, you remove the entire filter and replace it with a new one – a quick 2-minute job that doesn’t require handling a messy cartridge.

The carbon filters last for one year while the RO membrane needs to be replaced every 3-5 years.

Home Master TM ULTRA-ERP Ultra

BEST FOR WELL WATER

Home Master TM ULTRA-ERP Ultra

Summary

If you use well water, you can’t install any RO systems. Most RO filters quickly get clogged from all the iron in the groundwater, rendering the filters useless after just a short period.

The Home Master TMULTRA-ERP is one of the few RO systems that can handle well water without a problem.

Its secret is the iron pre-filter that removes 99% of the iron from the water before it clogs the RO membrane.

In addition to the iron pre-filter, the TMULTRA-ERP has sediment and catalytic carbon pre-filters that remove particulates and chemicals like chlorine and chloramine before they damage the membrane.

The membrane deals with tougher contaminants such as bacteria and heavy metals. But the filtration process doesn’t end there.

There’s also a UV filter that sterilizers any microbes in the water, including bacteria, cysts, and viruses. It’s the second line of defense that ensures your drinking water is safe for your family.

The UV filter is especially vital for well water users since your water is not treated with chlorine. The RO membrane and UV filter work together to eliminate all dangerous microbes.

The only thing missing from the TMULTRA-ERP RO filter is a remineralization stage. The water may taste a little flat compared to bottled or tap water. But most people don’t mind. If you love mineral water, you can add the mineral filter later.

Like the TMAFC model, the TMULTRA-ERP has the Fast Flow kit. So water comes out reasonably fast.

It also has a permeate pump, which is not available in the TMAFC system.

The non-electric pump significantly increases water efficiency, reducing the amount of water wasted from 4 gallons to 1 gallon for each gallon of purified water.

The filters have the same modular design as other Home Master RO systems. The iron and carbon pre-filters last 1 year while the membrane lasts 3-5 years.

Home Master HM Mini Sinktop Faucet Filter

BEST HOME MASTER FAUCET FILTER

Home Master HM Mini Sinktop Faucet Filter

Summary

Home Master is best known for its range of reverse osmosis filters. But they also make faucet filters. Our favorite is the HM Mini Sinktop.

Unlike PUR and Brita faucet-mounted filters that attach directly to the faucet, the Mini Sinktop filter sits on your countertop.

A faucet adapter with tubes routes water to the filter and returns it to the faucet.

The countertop design allows for a bigger filtration media, which in this case, is a 1-micron carbon block.

The larger media results in the removal of more contaminants from tap water. It also eliminates the leakage and loosening issues that are common with faucet-mounted filters.

Another advantage is that the filter lasts longer. Unlike other faucet filters that need to be replaced every 3-6 months, the Mini Sinktop filter lasts an impressive 1 year or about 1,500 gallons of water.

In terms of what it can filter, the Mini comes nowhere close to one of Home Master’s RO systems.

The carbon block excels in removing the taste and odor of chlorine from your tap water. It also removes other chemicals like herbicides, pesticides, VOCs, and pharmaceuticals, as well as dirt and rust.

If your city uses chloramines instead of chlorine to disinfect water, get the HM Mini1CCB Mini filter instead.

It uses catalytic carbon instead of activated carbon. Catalytic carbon is much more effective at removing chloramines.

The Mini Sinktop takes just a few minutes to install. Just remove the aerator on your faucet and attach the diverter valve. Note that the valve doesn’t fit sprayer faucets.

Connect the tubing and then flush the filter as instructed in the manual.

The filter is small, so it’s perfect for dorm rooms, small kitchens, RVs, boats, and other areas where a full-size under-sink filter wouldn’t fit.

Home Master TMJRF2 Countertop Water Filter

BEST HOME MASTER COUNTERTOP WATER FILTER

Home Master TMJRF2

Summary

If you want better filtration performance than what the Mini Sinktop offers, we recommend the Home Master TMJRF2.

Because it sits on the counter, it’s still a great choice for dorm rooms, RVs, apartments, small kitchens, and other small spaces where installing an under-counter filter is not possible.

But it’s bigger than the Mini and has three filtration stages instead of just one. That allows it to remove more contaminants from water, including fluoride and arsenic.

The TMJRF2 connects to your faucet, much like the Mini. A diverter valve attaches to the end of the faucet with the aerator removed.

It takes water to the filter media sitting on the countertop. A key difference between the TMJRF2 and Mini is that the former doesn’t return filtered water to the faucet.

Instead, it has its own faucet attached to the base of the filter. So you can continue using your faucet as normal while getting clean filtered water from the separate faucet.

Make sure you place the filter right at the edge of the sink so that the faucet pours water into the sink.

The Home Master TMJRF2 has three filtration stages.

5-micron compression disks: These filter out fine sediment, rust, and particulates in the water.

Activated coconut carbonRemoves chlorine and other chemicals such as VOCs, herbicides, and pesticides.

Activated alumina: Removes fluoride and arsenic.

The flow rate out of the dedicated faucet is pretty good, unlike RO systems.

You’ll notice an instant change in the taste of your water. The best part is that the filter does not remove any healthy minerals. So you still get that delicious earthy taste without any of the harmful chemicals.

The one thing we don’t like about the TMJRF2 is the short filter lifespan. The manufacturer recommends replacing them every three months or about 500 gallons.

Thankfully, the replacement filter is inexpensive.

Home Master HMF2SmgCC

BEST HOME MASTER WHOLE HOUSE FILTER

Home Master HMF2SmgCC

Summary

All the above Home Master filters are point-of-use, meaning they only filter water at one point in your home.

If you want to remove chlorine and other contaminants from all the water coming into your home, a whole house filter is the best option.

We recommend the Home Master HMF2SmgCC.

It is a 2-stage 95,000-gallon system designed for use with treated city water.

If you use well water, get the Home Master HMF3SDGFEC instead. It has an iron filter.

The Home Master HMF2SmgCC has just two filters:

Sediment filter: Removes rust, dust, silt, and other particulates that cause turbidity and cloudiness. It has a 4-layer multi-gradient design that allows it to remove sediment particles of different sizes from as large as 25 microns to as small as 1 micron without clogging.

Catalytic Carbon: Removes chlorine, chloramines, and various other chemicals, including VOCs and pesticides.

The filters are large with wide inlet and outlet ports to ensure a fast flow rate. You shouldn’t see any difference in water pressure from the shower and faucets.

The 95,000 gallons capacity lasts about a year for the average family.

Home Master Water Filters FAQs

reverse osmosis system reviews

Are Home Master water filters certified?

Yes, most Home Master water filters are NSF-certified to remove specific ingredients.

Are Home Master filters safe for use with well water?

It depends on the filter. Some Home Master filters are meant only for use with chlorinated city water, while others can be used with well water.

Those filters with an iron pre-filter are the ones you can use with well water.

Do Home Master Filters remove chloramine?

All Home Master RO filters remove both chlorine and chloramine. As for their carbon faucet, countertop, and whole-house filters, look for those with a catalytic carbon filter.

Can I install a Home Master RO filter in the basement?

If you don’t have space under your sink, you can install a Home Master reverse osmosis filter in your basement.

You’ll need extra tubing and, most likely, a booster or permeate pump to prevent a large pressure loss.

Do I have to install a new faucet for the RO filter?

It’s possible to connect the RO filter to the existing faucet rather than a new dedicated faucet. But it’s a bad idea.

You’ll quickly deplete the reserve water in the tank, and water will come out in a trickle.

The only time you can connect the filter directly to an existing faucet is if the faucet has limited use e.g., a bar sink faucet.

How do I know when it’s time to replace the filters?

Your filter will come with recommended replacement periods. It’s 1 year for RO filters, 3-5 years for the RO membrane, and 1 year for most of their carbon filters. Go with that.

You can also use a TDS meter if you have an RO system. If TDS levels go up, it’s time to replace the filters.

For carbon faucet or countertop filters, a more noticeable chlorine taste or smell is an indication that the filters are not at their optimal condition.
