The countertop design allows for a bigger filtration media, which in this case, is a 1-micron carbon block.
The larger media results in the removal of more contaminants from tap water. It also eliminates the leakage and loosening issues that are common with faucet-mounted filters.
Another advantage is that the filter lasts longer. Unlike other faucet filters that need to be replaced every 3-6 months, the Mini Sinktop filter lasts an impressive 1 year or about 1,500 gallons of water.
In terms of what it can filter, the Mini comes nowhere close to one of Home Master’s RO systems. It doesn’t remove germs, salts and heavy metals. That’s why you should only use it with treated city water.

But it’s bigger than the Mini and has three filtration stages instead of just one. That allows it to remove more contaminants from water, including fluoride and arsenic.
The TMJRF2 connects to your faucet, much like the Mini. A diverter valve attaches to the end of the faucet with the aerator removed.
It takes water to the filter media sitting on the countertop. A key difference between the TMJRF2 and Mini is that the former doesn’t return filtered water to the faucet.
Instead, it has its own faucet attached to the base of the filter. So you can continue using your faucet as normal while getting clean filtered water from the separate faucet.
Make sure you place the filter right at the edge of the sink so that the faucet pours water into the sink.
The Home Master TMJRF2 has three filtration stages.
5-micron compression disks: These filter out fine sediment, rust, and particulates in the water.

Do I have to install a new faucet for the RO filter?
It’s possible to connect the RO filter to the existing faucet rather than a new dedicated faucet. But it’s a bad idea.
You’ll quickly deplete the reserve water in the tank, and water will come out in a trickle.
The only time you can connect the filter directly to an existing faucet is if the faucet has limited use e.g., a bar sink faucet.
How do I know when it’s time to replace the filters?
Your filter will come with recommended replacement periods. It’s 1 year for RO filters, 3-5 years for the RO membrane, and 1 year for most of their carbon filters. Go with that.
You can also use a TDS meter if you have an RO system. If TDS levels go up, it’s time to replace the filters.
For carbon faucet or countertop filters, a more noticeable chlorine taste or smell is an indication that the filters are not at their optimal condition.
